'Trapped in a Dreadful Dream': Families of Unaccounted For Teens Desperately Seek Information After Alpine Blaze
The families of young people unaccounted for after a devastating inferno at a establishment in a Swiss winter destination are facing an agonising period of uncertainty for confirmed information and appealing for any details about their children via social media.
The inferno engulfed the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the middle of the night of the first day of the year. Confirmed images depict the ceiling igniting as beverages with fireworks are held aloft.
Officials have stated that it could take an extended period to formally name the fatalities of the tragedy, which resulted in the death of numerous partygoers and hurt another over a hundred. Officials noted on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with work still underway to identify the other six.
In the meantime, relatives have been using social media to request information about their friends who were present at the venue that fateful night.
Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, a teenager, are still unconfirmed, according to an public plea from his family.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, explained to a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the same in Bern, but did not locate him.
"This is a living nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. It's terrible," she stated.
She added that some of his friends had been located with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "There are no words; they went through hell."
The Italy's government has said that six of its young people are still unaccounted for.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a teenage sportsman, who hailed from Italy but now residing in Dubai.
The national sporting body has stated that he is no longer with us, without mentioning the tragedy, honoring a "talented young man who embodied dedication and authentic values."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last in contact around midnight. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Further Missing Individuals
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His parent explained that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with friends and found himself at the bar.
"Someone with him informed me they fled after the fire broke out and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a specific moment he they were separated," she said, adding he had been wearing a identifiable piece of jewelry.
One of his teachers stated, "I remember his good nature and smile, combined with great maturity. Every time offer to get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives full-time in the country, was also present on that night, according to media.
Her sibling has posted an appeal on social media, saying the relatives has had "no information" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also reported missing.
Officials from her country of origin say they are closely watching the situation.
