Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not Genuine Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Defeat Spurs and Increase Pressure on the Manager
Spurs fans who jeered keeper Vicario were informed afterwards "those individuals cannot be true Tottenham fans" by manager Frank.
Tottenham conceded two goals in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight home loss of 2025.
However the main talking point was Fulham's second goal when Vicario lost possession well outside his box.
He came out to deal with a long ball and carried the ball towards the sideline.
But, rather than booting it into touch, the Italian spun and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Wilson and was collected by King.
The forward laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a strike into the goal from the sideline recorded at thirty-six point six yards.
Seconds afterwards when the ball came to Vicario once more, a number of Spurs fans booed him.
The team were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at the final whistle.
One of those jeering episodes really irritated the manager.
"It came to my attention some of our supporters reportedly jeered the situation and booed after, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented about the supporters' reaction to his shot-stopper.
"Those individuals can't be true Tottenham fans that do that. Alright jeering following the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are backing one another, we are with one another moving ahead."
Tete had given the visitors a fourth-minute advantage before Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Tottenham in an better second period showing.
Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Joe Hart remarked that the second score was "completely avoidable".
"I certainly appreciate the fans' frustration," Hart added. "I know the part the keeper is playing. He's a great team player, he's a real figure in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your decisions.
"The keeper was heavily involved in what ended up to be the winning goal."
'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Vicario After the Game
Italy national team Vicario is in his third season with Tottenham.
The 29-year-old stated after the match that he had to accept the feedback.
"That score was a mistake of mine, I accept accountability for it," he said.
"The intent was to kick the ball long and I simply struck the ball in a bad manner. That made an even bigger mountain to climb."
He stated receiving jeers "comes with the game".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "The team cannot be influenced by the situation in the stands. The fans have the entitlement to do what they think.
"It is on the team to remain more composed, to concentrate on our own performance. We are lacking in calmness and poise to overturn results. Today is a bad loss and it's tough to accept."
'It Shocked Me No One Returned to the Line'
Despite Vicario's mistake, it was not an simple score for Harry Wilson to convert.
In fact it was the second most distant Premier League score of the season – following Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against the Black Cats, which incidentally too occurred on the same day.
Wilson said he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an empty goal to aim for.
Ten seconds passed between the keeper coming out of his box and Wilson striking – which was 5 seconds after the kick.
"I felt like the keeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson said.
"It amazed me none of the back four returned to the line. When not one of them covered the goal, my eyes lit up a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which gave me a bit of extra opportunity. Then it was all about attempting to achieve the correct connection and place it on target. I had a positive sense, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."
'When You're in a Bad Spell, Everything Seems to Go Against You'
Jeering Whilst We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unjustifiable - the Manager
Although the keeper's mistake led headlines, this was an overall bad performance for Tottenham to continue their home struggles.
This was their 10th at home loss of the year in the Premier League, a shared team record along with 1994 and two thousand and three.
The side still have home games against Frank's old side the Bees and champions the Reds to play prior to the end of the year.
Only one of those wins have occurred after the manager replaced his predecessor in the summer.
"When you're down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a mountain to overcome," stated the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to go against you too – the opening was a redirected attempt, the second is a error from the keeper.
"The outcome leaves us in a position where we have lost an additional game. Every game has a single story, this game we were defeated in the early stages.
"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully an aspect we can use to develop."
Tottenham have lost four consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are recording 9.5 attempts and 3.2 efforts on goal per match in the division – their lowest rates on file in a single campaign (dating back to the 2003-04 season).
Former Cottagers midfielder Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to ride the storm.
"He's got accept the stick," the pundit said. "He has taken a prestigious job at a huge team with enormous expectation. There is scrutiny and duty that accompanies that.
"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
