Rob Edwards along with Gary O'Neil represent the initial names in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was dismissed on the weekend after the team's ten-game winless start to the Premier League season.
And both candidates - both of who have historic associations to the club - are among the options to be evaluated by the club ownership.
The manager is currently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.
However the former Luton manager - who made more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his time as a player - is said to be a strong contender for the vacancy.
The mid-career manager is reportedly enjoys backing from the club board as they start the search of hiring a fresh manager.
Gary O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, although he would be a shock appointment given he was released by the club in the previous winter.
The ex- West Ham United player is currently unemployed meaning Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
