Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Top Player Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year.
The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – including successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth career Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of Dominance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The Belarusian also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the world number one, finishing 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka ended the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a historic eleven million pounds in prize money.
She earned almost eighty percent of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after winning their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz secured three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as fans' favourite for a third time.
