Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Leading Abusive Songs About Manager Wilder
Patrick Bamford has joined the Championship side only seven months following leading disrespectful taunts targeting the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a deal with the second-tier club in difficulty until January. Bamford's seven-year career with Leeds finished amicably this past summer.
One of Bamford’s final notable acts while at Leeds involved leading abusive songs about Chris Wilder during Leeds' success festivities in April. Now, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to lift his beloved club out of the bottom places.
Past History Between Bamford & Wilder
The pair had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League the previous campaign and United lost the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager described Bamford as “a muppet” back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation and Looking Ahead
All seems to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the league's least productive attack, urgently requiring of improvement in attack and Bamford looking to rejuvenate his career.
The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. A repentant Bamford and the Leeds manager, Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.
Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I have no problem at all with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and respected him giving me a call.
“We spent 20 minutes and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, even on a Sunday morning. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Career Challenges
Bamford made 18 games with Leeds United in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
