Females Unite For the Oscar-Winning Actor Amidst Criticism Over Age Criticism
Females are uniting for Oscar-winning actor Catherine Zeta-Jones following she encountered disparaging remarks across platforms about her looks at a recent red carpet function.
Zeta-Jones attended a promotional function in Hollywood last month where a TikTok interview discussing her character in the latest Wednesday became dominated due to comments concerning her age.
Widespread Backing
This year's Miss Great Britain Classic winner, Laura White, labelled the negative reaction "absolute rubbish", noting that "males escape this expiration date that women do".
"Men are free from such a timeline that women do," stated Laura White.
Author aged 50, Sali Hughes, stated in contrast to men, women were unfairly judged for ageing and the actor deserves to be able to appear in any way she chooses.
Digital Backlash
During the interview, also shared to social media and attracted millions of views, the actor, originally from Mumbles, Swansea, discussed her enjoyment in exploring her role, Morticia Addams, in the latest season.
But a significant number of the numerous remarks zeroed in on her age and were disparaging towards her looks.
This criticism ignited a broad defence of Zeta-Jones, such as a viral video from one Facebook user which stated: "People criticize women for having cosmetic procedures and attack them if they avoid sufficient procedures."
Online users came to her defence, one stating: "It's called aging naturally and she appears gorgeous."
Many labelled her as "beautiful" and "very attractive", while someone else said that "she appears her age - which is simply reality."
Making a Point
The winner attended on air recently without any makeup to make a statement and to highlight there was no set "mold" for what a woman in midlife ought to appear.
Similar to numerous females in her demographic, she said she "takes care of herself" not to appear younger but in order to feel "better" and be "vibrant".
"Getting older represents an honour and provided we age gracefully, that is what really matters," she added.
Ms White stated that men were not judged by identical appearance ideals, stating "nobody scrutinizes how old Tom Cruise, George Clooney or Tom Jones might be - they simply are described as 'great'."
She said that became a key factor she entered Miss Great Britain's category for women over 45, in order to demonstrate that women in midlife continue to exist" and "possess it".
A Fundamental Problem
Hughes, an author and presenter from Wales, said that while the actor is "stunning" this is "beside the point", adding she deserves to be able to appear however she liked free from her years coming under examination.
She stated the social media vitriol proved that no female is "exempt" and that it is unfair for women to endure the "perpetual story" that they are lacking or young enough - an issue that is "infuriating, no matter the person involved".
When asked if men experience identical criticism, she said "no, never", explaining women were attacked just for showing "audacity" to exist online while growing older.
A No-Win Situation
Even with cosmetic companies emphasizing "youthful longevity", she commented women were still judged if they age gracefully or underwent treatments including plastic surgery or fillers.
"If you age without intervention, others claim you should do more; when you have work done, people say you trying too hard," she remarked further.
