Fans eagerly awaiting the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start much longer. A free-to-play demo version will release on the seventh of January, providing a substantial taste into the game's initial chapters. Critically, all advancement achieved within this demo can be transferred directly into the full game upon its subsequent debut.

More Than a Straightforward Re-release: A Thorough Transformation

This title is a from-scratch reimagining of the seminal 2000 JRPG, first titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct departure from other series remakes, like the recently released HD-2D iterations, this version utilizes a unique three-dimensional visual presentation. Locales are designed to look like intricate miniature worlds, with protagonists sporting a whimsical chibi-esque appearance.

"Taking into account the 3DS port, the main quest was still exceptionally long. Therefore, we reached a determination that we wanted to condense the story, [and] craft an experience for contemporary gamers."

Major Mechanical Changes & Modernizations

The creators have implemented numerous changes to update the classic gameplay loop. These include:

• Quick Overworld Encounters: Taking a cue from modern RPGs, low-level enemies can now be dispatched instantly on the field without entering a separate turn-based combat screen.
• Variable Battle Speed: Players have the option to speed up battle sequences to quickly get past simpler encounters.
• Expanded Vocation System: A completely new job class was created for this reimagining. Additionally, characters now have the ability to take on a secondary vocation, significantly expanding strategic depth.

These alterations seek to tackle a key the 2000 title's frequent criticisms: its considerable length. The original adventure could easily require more than 100 hours to see through. The new edition was expressly reworked to improve pacing and reduce perceived filler.
