A Mountain of Anime News Dropped During the Holidays
The Yuletide season offer a plethora of activities considerably more enjoyable than scanning the latest news: discovering surprises, indulging in festive fare, and using deep breathing to avoid arguing with relatives. Hopefully you managed to enjoy all these things and more. However, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items emerged during the holidays, and if you missed some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (By 2027)
Truly the most surprising announcement, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to deter the series' continuation. The show will be back with a second cour in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have called it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. Thankfully this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which might be a hopeful indicator. However, the main art for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This suggests that, by now, they could be teasing the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Poised to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the ethical practices of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not adapted an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the creator's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series showed it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, decades-spanning Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only recently got an English release, but the anime has been going on for a while, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will almost certainly premiere in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series
One more studio famous for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara.
